People & reach
Each line is a city: read across to a number of people or places (pick below), and up to the share of that city's population living somewhere that reaches at least that many within 30 min by transit. The dot marks the city's median resident; the loaded city is highlighted; point at a line or a rank row to follow one city. The ranking beside the chart is the area under each curve — equivalently, what the average resident can reach. People is the default on purpose: WorldPop counts people the same way in every city, while place counts inherit each country's OpenStreetMap tagging habits.

Each city's footprint is the convex hull of its transit network, and those differ a lot — Barcelona's is 203 km², Atlanta's 2 193 km². "Share of city population" therefore means the population inside that city's transit service area, not its administrative boundary. Population comes from WorldPop at 1 km resolution, coarser than the 0.35 km hexes. Destination counts come from OpenStreetMap and vary with local tagging habits.
